Updates of Starview

Starview has the ability to update itself.  You will not have to udpate StarView from an external source barring unforseen problem.  When StarView runs, it checks to see if it is the most recent version.  If it is not, it warns the user.

For personal instalations that you can upgrade, you will be asked if you want to upgrade. If the older version can be used, it will give you the option of not upgrading (and ignoring future messages if you so desire).  If the update is required, it will let you either quit the program or upgrade (you cannot run it as it will not work correctly due to some server upgrade).

For site installations, the user will be informed of potential upgrades.  If the program will not run, it will exit after the warning. Please contact your administrator to have the upgrade run.

As an administrator, you will need to run the Update.jar file with the command java -jar  Update.jar. This will download the latest update.jar file, execute it (which will install the latest version of StarView in the current directory).  Once this is done, you may wish to remove the read permission for everyone so as to keep users from trying to update things themselves.

If you do not have the Update.jar file, it may be retrieved from http://starview.stsci.edu/downloads/Update.jar.
